Turkish Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing After Engine Fire

A Turkish Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing shortly after takeoff from Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Tuesday morning when one of its engines reportedly caught fire. The incident occurred around 7:00 AM.
According to airport sources, Turkish Airlines flight TK713 (Airbus A330-303), carrying 290 passengers, departed for Istanbul from Dhaka at 7:00 AM on May 20. About 15 minutes into the flight, the pilot noticed sparks coming from one of the aircraft’s two engines. In response, the pilot decided to make an emergency landing. The aircraft circled the sky for approximately an hour and a half to burn fuel before safely landing at 8:15 AM.
Ragib Samad, Executive Director of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, confirmed the incident and told the media, “During takeoff, the aircraft collided with a bird. When sparks appeared, the pilot immediately opted for an emergency landing.”
He added, “The aircraft’s current condition is under inspection.”
Turkish Airlines confirmed that all 290 passengers were safely evacuated from the flight. In an official statement, the airline said, “Following an emergency landing at Dhaka Airport on May 20, flight TK713 was held on the runway for necessary repairs. Shortly after a successful takeoff, the aircraft’s second engine was struck by a bird, prompting its return.”
The statement further read, “We are pleased to confirm that all passengers, crew, and the aircraft are safe. Since the aircraft requires repairs, this may take some time. Meanwhile, accommodations and rest arrangements have been made at nearby hotels for all our valued passengers.”
