E-Filing Enthusiasm Exceeds Expectations

Over 1.6 million taxpayers in Bangladesh have submitted their income tax returns online, according to a press release issued by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) on Wednesday, May 7.

The statement highlights that the NBR’s online income tax return filing system has received an enthusiastic response from taxpayers. "Based on taxpayers’ demands and feedback, the online return filing process is being continuously simplified and made more user-friendly," the NBR noted. So far this year, more than 1.6 million returns have been filed online, and over 2 million taxpayers have completed registration for e-filing.

The NBR also clarified that the online return submission service remains operational even after the official Income Tax Day. Furthermore, if any errors are identified in a submitted return, taxpayers are now able to file a revised return from home under Section 180(2) of the Income Tax Act 2023, within 180 days of the original submission as per Section 180(1). To date, 7,225 taxpayers have submitted revised returns online.
