Fact-Check: Viral Video Misattributed to Magura Rape Victim

A video circulating on social media, purportedly showing footage of the eight-year-old rape victim from Magura in a hospital, has been found to be misleading. The video, which appeared on a page named ‘Shironamhin’ without any specific title, actually depicts a young girl in India suffering from leukemia, rather than the Magura victim.

Rumor Scanner, a fact-checking organization, conducted a keyframe reverse image analysis and determined the actual source of the video. Their investigation revealed that the video was originally posted on March 10 by the Facebook page ‘Shironamhin – শিরোনামহীন’ with the caption "Having a sister... is no less than having a mother." However, the video did not specify the identity of the child.

Further verification through reverse image search led to the Kannada-language news channel TV9 Kannada, which had posted the same video in short format. The description stated:
"Some moments captured on social media deeply touch our hearts and bring tears to our eyes. One such video is now viral, showing a teenage girl lying on a hospital bed, breaking into tears upon seeing her beloved brother after a week. The emotional clip has moved netizens. The 12-year-old girl is battling leukemia."

Additionally, the same video was previously uploaded in February on the Instagram account ‘ganpatbhati888’, further confirming that it has no connection to the Magura incident.

Regarding the actual case, the eight-year-old victim was taken to Magura 250-Bed Hospital in an unconscious state on March 6, before being transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital and later to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Eventually, on March 8, she was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka, where she passed away on March 13.

Therefore, the circulating video falsely claims to depict the Magura victim’s hospital scene, making it a fabricated and misleading piece of content.
