General Motors Appoints First Chief AI Officer to Strengthen Technological Capabilities

For the first time, General Motors (GM) has appointed a Chief Artificial Intelligence (AI) Officer to enhance its technological capabilities. On Monday, the company announced the appointment of Barak Turovsky to this newly created position, according to a report by Reuters.

Turovsky, 49, previously led AI technology development at Cisco and Google. In his new role, he will be part of GM’s software and services engineering team, reporting to Senior Vice President Dave Richardson.

GM stated that AI is crucial for the future of its electric vehicles (EVs), internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, and autonomous technology. Under Turovsky's leadership, the company aims to further leverage AI to enhance product development, streamline manufacturing processes, and improve customer experience.

The automaker has already been utilizing AI for determining optimal locations for EV chargers, simplifying the vehicle ordering process for dealers, and optimizing production workflows. With Turovsky at the helm, these initiatives are expected to expand and evolve.
