Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) will continue to enforce its strict “zero tolerance” policy against ragging, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Khairul Islam has reaffirmed.

In a message issued on Monday (June 8), the vice-chancellor outlined the university administration’s commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment for incoming students ahead of the commencement of the new academic session on June 16.

He stated that the university administration will remain vigilant in maintaining a safe atmosphere across the campus, residential halls and student accommodations. Strict monitoring measures will be in place to ensure that no student falls victim to ragging or any form of harassment.

Addressing newly admitted students, Professor Khairul Islam urged them to immediately report any incidents of ragging or harassment occurring on campus, in residential halls or at private mess facilities to the Student Adviser, the Proctorial Body, or faculty members of their respective departments.

“The university administration will not compromise in any way with the culture of ragging. There will be no tolerance for such practices,” he said.

The vice-chancellor further emphasized that the administration’s zero-tolerance policy would remain firmly in force to ensure a safe, supportive and student-friendly academic environment.

University stakeholders have welcomed the announcement, describing it as an important step toward safeguarding freshmen and fostering a positive learning atmosphere on campus.
