Bridges Division Introduces Biometric-Based Digital Attendance at Setu Bhaban
To ensure security at Setu Bhaban and guarantee the presence of officials and employees of the Bridges Division and the Bangladesh Bridge Authority, a digital attendance system has been installed at the main entrance of Setu Bhaban, the headquarters of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority. From February 22, all officials and employees at every level of the Bridges Division and the Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) have brought their office activities fully under a 100 percent digital attendance (Electronic Attendance) system.
The ministry confirmed on Thursday, February 26, that the modernization initiative was undertaken in line with government directives to ensure timely attendance at workplaces.
According to sources, the digital attendance system utilizes a multi-biometric identification terminal (ZKTeco G4 Pro). The system verifies user identity through facial recognition, fingerprint scanning, RFID cards, and passwords. Users can stand in front of the device to scan their face through the camera, place their finger on the fingerprint sensor, or use a card or password. The device’s internal software compares the input data with the stored database. Upon a successful match, it displays “Verification Successful” and either unlocks the door or records attendance. Monthly attendance reports can also be generated through the system.
Mohammad Abdur Rouf, Secretary of the Bridges Division and Executive Director of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority, stated that the initiative was implemented to carry out the Prime Minister’s directives, ensure timely presence at workplaces, and provide government services on schedule. He noted that digital attendance ensures proper recording of arrival and departure times, bringing a positive transformation to the overall work environment. In Bangladesh’s journey of advancement, punctuality and transparency among officials and employees will serve as essential conditions.
Altaf Hossain Sheikh, Director (Administration) and Additional Secretary of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority, said that the introduction of digital attendance not only ensures punctuality but also lays the foundation for building a modern and smart administration. As a result, proper utilization of government resources is being ensured and project activities are gaining momentum. Employees of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority have also welcomed the system, saying that it makes performance evaluation more objective and meaningful.
Through the use of advanced biometric devices, attendance of officials and employees is being recorded digitally. This enables higher authorities to monitor attendance status at any time via a central server. By eliminating manual attendance registers, the authority is also promoting an environmentally friendly and modern administrative culture.
