Intel Inches into Handheld Gaming Market
Intel is preparing to enter the handheld gaming device market, signaling a major expansion of its gaming hardware ambitions. Speaking at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Intel’s Vice President and General Manager of PC Products Daniel Rogers said the new platform will feature both hardware and software integration, according to TechCrunch.
Reports indicate that the upcoming platform will be built on Intel’s Core Ultra Series 3 processors, codenamed Panther Lake. As part of this initiative, Intel is developing a dedicated chip specifically optimized for handheld gaming.
The Panther Lake chips are the first products manufactured using Intel’s 18A process technology, with commercial production scheduled to begin in 2025.
Intel has long been a major player in gaming PC processors and expanded its footprint in the graphics segment with the launch of Intel Arc GPUs in 2022. However, entering the handheld gaming space will place the company in direct competition with AMD, which currently dominates the segment and has recently unveiled new gaming-focused processors.
Intel said it plans to release more detailed information later this year regarding its handheld gaming products. If successful, the move could significantly strengthen Intel’s position in the global gaming hardware market while offering manufacturers and users new alternatives worldwide.
