After a long wait, the fifth season of the popular web series Stranger Things has finally been released on Netflix. But just minutes after the season dropped, Netflix crashed—leaving thousands of viewers frustrated, according to The Guardian.

The outage began shortly after the first four episodes of Season 5 were released on Thursday, 27 November. Viewers—particularly those attempting to watch on TV devices—faced disruptions while streaming. Many fans took to social media to express their frustration.

According to outage-tracking website DownDetector, nearly 14,000 users in the United States reported issues with Netflix. In India as well, a significant number of users faced connectivity problems, with around 200 reports logged during peak time.

In an emailed statement to Reuters, Netflix said, “Some members experienced a temporary issue when streaming on TV devices. However, service was fully restored for all accounts within five minutes.”

This isn’t the first time Netflix has crashed. The platform faced similar disruptions during the 2024 Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul boxing match and the live reunion of the reality show Love Is Blind. In 2022, Netflix also crashed when the final two episodes of Stranger Things Season 4 were released.

After a three-year break, Stranger Things returns with its fifth season. Set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, during the 1980s, the series remains a global sensation. This season features returning cast members including Millie Bobby Brown and Finn Wolfhard, along with a storyline that includes a slight time jump.
