Apple Aims for 200MP iPhone Camera in 2028
Apple is set to introduce a 200-megapixel camera to the iPhone lineup for the first time, according to a report by investment research firm Morgan Stanley. The high-resolution camera is expected to debut with the iPhone 21 series, scheduled for release in 2028, reports GSMArena.
Rumors had already surfaced in May this year suggesting that Apple was testing a 200MP camera sensor, though no concrete details were available at the time.
The report further notes that 2027 will mark the 20th anniversary of the first iPhone, raising the possibility that Apple may launch the iPhone 20 that year. Following that naming sequence, the 2028 model would be called the iPhone 21. Industry speculation suggests that the iPhone 21 Pro Max will be the first to feature the 200MP camera, with the possibility of it later expanding to other Pro models.
The camera sensor is expected to be supplied by Samsung, although the exact model has yet to be confirmed. The report also hints that production of the sensor could eventually take place in the United States.
