BUET’s 'Silver Hawk' Wins the Brains Battle at ICPC Asia Dhaka Regional 2025

The grand finale of the ICPC Asia Dhaka Regional Contest 2025, widely known as the “Olympics of Programming”, was held in a festive atmosphere at the permanent campus of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT), marking a major milestone on the global competitive programming stage.

On Saturday, December 20, a total of 939 programmers from 313 teams across the country took part in the prestigious contest, engaging in an intense five-hour marathon to solve complex algorithmic problems. The competition was hosted at BUBT’s International Conference Hall and designated computer laboratories, creating an atmosphere charged with tension, talent, and teamwork.

In the overall standings (outside the IOI track), BUET’s “Silver Hawk” emerged as champions, while Dhaka University’s “MaxSankCostFlow” secured first runner-up position and SUST’s “Godfather Inc.” finished as second runner-up.

In the women’s category, International Islamic University Chittagong’s “DUWP” team clinched the championship, with BUBT’s “Curly Brace” finishing as runner-up.

At the divisional level, champions included BUET Silver Hawks in Dhaka, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University in Rangpur, RUET’s “Triple No Brown” in Rajshahi, SUST’s “Godfather Inc.” in Sylhet, Netrokona University’s “Rebooters NEU” in Mymensingh, KUET’s “Potal” in Khulna, Comilla University’s “Reignite” in Chattogram, and BU’s “Terryhards” in Barishal.

The IUT “Kamikaze” team won two special awards for being the fastest to solve the first problem, while BUET Silver Hawk secured three special awards overall. Additional problem-set-based awards went to teams from Comilla University, SUST, and Green University of Bangladesh.

In a special category recognizing creative team names, Feni University’s “Equilibrium” was voted champion by students, followed by Premier University Chattogram’s “BUC Minhaz Sir Remembered” as first runner-up and Eastern University’s “Pari Na Kisu” as second runner-up.

A colorful award-giving and closing ceremony followed the competition, where champions were presented with trophies and prizes by chief and special guests.

Distinguished attendees included ICT Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury, Professor Dr. Mohammad Kaykobad (BRAC University), ICPC Dhaka Regional Associate Director Abdullah Al Haq, BCC Director Jafrul Alam Khan, veteran ICPC judge Shahriar Manzur, BUBT Trust Vice Chairman Professor Abu Saleh, and BUBT CSE Chairman Md Saifur Rahman.

The event was presided over by BUBT Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Shawkat Ali, while Nafiur Karim, Senior System Analyst at Dynamic Solution Innovators Ltd., spoke on behalf of the sponsors.

Speaking at the event, Professor Dr. ABM Shawkat Ali said BUBT was proud to have successfully hosted an international-standard competition and expressed confidence that the winners would raise Bangladesh’s flag higher on the global stage.

Speakers praised the indomitable spirit and passion of the country’s youth in advancing the national technology sector. Therap (BD) Ltd. served as the Gold Sponsor, while the event was successfully organized with overall support from the Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) and the ICT Division.

Notably, this year’s contest saw a record number of participants. Based on final standings, top teams will go on to represent Bangladesh at the ICPC World Finals.

During the program, Raihat Zamana Niloy, Software Engineer at Google Ireland, conducted a discussion on the contest’s problem set.
