NCSA Forms Special Cell to Counter Misinformation Ahead of National Election
The National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) has formed a special monitoring cell to prevent the spread of fake news, misleading content, and rumours ahead of the upcoming national election. The initiative will remain active until the election is concluded.
According to officials, the cell is conducting round-the-clock monitoring of online platforms and social media, verifying information, and ensuring the authenticity of digital content. To enhance public engagement and ensure swift assistance in preventing cybercrime, the NCSA has also activated a 24/7 helpline service.
To facilitate the submission of complaints, the agency has provided five issue-based email addresses. Citizens have been asked to report national, personal, or institutional-level misinformation to [email protected]. Complaints or official communications related to harassment or fraud involving fake profiles, images, audio or video content, obscene or harmful materials can be sent to [email protected].
For cyberattacks targeting Critical Information Infrastructure (CII) institutions, reports should be emailed to [email protected], while [email protected] has been designated for official notifications. Complaints or official correspondence related to online gambling should be sent to [email protected].
To ensure effective implementation, the NCSA is coordinating with the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB), Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), and various law enforcement agencies.
In a press release issued on Friday, the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology urged citizens to verify sources before sharing any information or content on social media. The ministry also requested the public to immediately inform the NCSA if they encounter suspicious, provocative, or anti-state content.
The NCSA emphasized that keeping the country’s cyberspace secure is a shared responsibility. Citizens have been urged to refrain from spreading false or misleading information, photocards, or videos circulated by anti-state groups, and to actively raise awareness among others.
