Drone Disrupts Dhaka Metro
A drone has fallen onto a section of the Dhaka Metro Rail line, causing a temporary disruption in service. Metro operations returned to normal shortly after the drone was removed.
On Saturday, 22 November, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) shared the information in a post on its official Facebook page.
The post informed passengers that the drone had fallen between Uttara Center and Uttara South stations, resulting in a brief interruption to metro rail services. Train movement resumed shortly after the drone was cleared. The Metro Rail authorities apologized for the temporary inconvenience.
DMTCL’s Deputy Project Director (Public Relations) and Deputy Secretary Md. Ahsan Ullah Sharifi confirmed the incident, saying that train movement was halted for about nine minutes when the drone fell on the track between Uttara Center and Uttara South stations. Metro operations were suspended from 8:47 PM to 8:56 PM.
He added that the train service was halted immediately for passenger safety after the drone landed on the track. Once removed, train operations resumed at 8:56 PM.
Expressing regret, he said, “We sincerely apologize for this temporary inconvenience.”
Earlier, on Friday (21 November), two unexploded cocktails were found on the metro rail line between Kazipara and Shewrapara stations in Mirpur. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Bomb Disposal Unit later removed them. That day, MRT Police Inspector (Investigation) Sohel Chowdhury said the two cocktails were placed inside zorda tins wrapped in scotch tape atop the track near pillars 288 and 289. They were first spotted by metro line maintenance workers. The DMP Bomb Disposal Unit was then notified and safely removed them. No damage was caused to the line.
