Bangladesh Team Heads to Russia for 22nd International Junior Science Olympiad
The 22nd International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO 2025) will be held from 23 November to 2 December in Sochi, Russia. Students under the age of 16 from 30 countries will compete in this global contest of scientific talent.
The Bangladesh team will depart for Russia on 21 November to represent the country on this worldwide stage of science and intellect.
The Bangladesh team—selected through the 11th Bangladesh Junior Science Olympiad from top performers across the country—consists of six students:

Abrar Zahin Pathan, Grade 8, St. Joseph Higher Secondary School

Bihan Pal, Grade 9, Ideal School and College

Ahnab Ahmed Sinan, Chattogram Cantonment Public College

H. M. Azizur Rahman Alif, Grade 9, Golgotha English Medium School

Nashwan Haque Mahir, Grade 9, Dhaka Residential Model College

Ruffa Noor Zariyah, Grade 10, Jashore Police Lines Secondary School
The team’s Leader is Prof. Dr. Farseem Mannan Mohammady of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
The Deputy Leaders are Md. Rezaul Islam, Coordinator of Bangladesh Junior Science Olympiad, and Morsheda Akter Meem, Academic Coordinator.
Muhammad Zakaria Pathan will accompany them as an observer.
The 22nd IJSO 2025 will officially begin with the opening ceremony on 23 November.
To introduce the team members, a press conference was held on Thursday, 20 November, at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka.

At the press conference, Munir Hasan introduced the team members and said Bangladesh’s students are well-prepared this year. He expressed hope that participating in such an international competition would further strengthen their innovative thinking and problem-solving skills.
Sazzadur Rahman Chowdhury of Bangladesh Freedom Foundation wished the team well, saying, “Bangladesh’s team will compete with students from all over the world. They are entering a battle of intellect. We hope they will return with great results once again.”
Jalal Ahmed of Al-Arafah Islami Bank noted, “Bangladesh has won many medals at the IJSO so far. We are proud to be patrons of these achievements. The students have worked hard for months. They represent our 180 million people. We hope they will make us proud again.”
Team leader Prof. Dr. Farseem Mannan Mohammady thanked the parents for their support.
Team member Ruffa Noor Zariyah said:
“Every effort brings good results and valuable lessons. We dedicated ourselves to the experimental and theoretical classes during the camp, and now we will try to apply what we learned on the world stage.”
As in previous years, the Bangladesh team is jointly selected by the Bangladesh Science Popularization Association and the Bangladesh Freedom Foundation, with patronage from Al-Arafah Islami Bank.
