Grameenphone Launches Wi-Fi Calling Service Using VoWiFi Technology
Following Banglalink and Robi, another private mobile operator—Grameenphone—has launched Wi-Fi Calling services using Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) technology. With this rollout, Grameenphone subscribers who are already under the Voice over LTE (VoLTE) service will be able to enjoy enhanced voice call quality at no additional cost, provided they use compatible smartphones.
In a statement issued on Saturday, 3 January, the operator said customers can access the service through designated Wi-Fi networks. To deliver the service in its initial phase, Grameenphone has partnered with several Internet Service Providers (ISPs), including BracNet, Carnival Internet, Chittagong Online Limited, and MiMi-Internet.
According to Grameenphone, the Wi-Fi Calling service has been designed to further improve call quality and ensure a seamless calling experience for users—without requiring any additional mobile applications.
Commenting on the launch, Grameenphone Chief Product Officer (CPO) Solaiman Alam said,
“Grameenphone remains committed to delivering the best customer experience through continuous innovation and the introduction of digital services. Wi-Fi Calling is another important milestone in this journey. From now on, our customers will be able to enjoy clearer and higher-quality voice calls over Wi-Fi networks.”
