To enhance and simplify customs services, National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan inaugurated three new software initiatives on Monday, July 7. During his visit to inspect operations at the Dhaka Customs House, the chairman officially launched the digital systems for simplifying the Baggage Rules for expatriates, introducing the e-Challan system (BR Challan), and activating the Detention Memo (DM) software.

At the inauguration, the NBR Chairman stated, “Within a week, all types of transactions will come under the e-Challan system.” He emphasized that through technology-driven improvements, NBR aims to not only boost revenue collection and simplify services but also restore internal discipline and build trust among officials.

Amid ongoing tensions following protests and suspension of some officials, Khan used the occasion to promote a message of harmony. However, he also sent a strong message regarding internal order. “Although thousands joined the protests, only five have lost their jobs. So, those who are sincere in their work have nothing to fear,” he warned.

He reported that total revenue collection for the current fiscal year has reached Tk 3,68,177 crore, adding, “There are no complaints about customs operations, and everything is proceeding normally.”

When asked about restoring confidence among officials, Chairman Khan said, “That’s why I came to them today — to offer reassurance. If everyone behaves responsibly and carries out their duties properly, I believe they have nothing to worry about.”
