LafargeHolcim Bangladesh PLC, a leading construction materials manufacturer, has been honored with the Sustainability Game Changer Award 2025 by the Foreign Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in recognition of its exceptional contributions to sustainable waste management.

In a press release dated Monday, November 10, LafargeHolcim highlighted the growing challenge of waste generation in Bangladesh, driven by one of the fastest urbanization rates in South Asia. Currently, 55 percent of generated waste remains uncollected, and a significant portion of both collected and uncollected waste is dumped into the soil, posing severe threats to the environment, groundwater, and public health.

LafargeHolcim’s innovative and sustainable waste management solution, GeoCycle, has been instrumental in addressing this challenge. The company’s Satak plant operates a globally recognized and Department of Environment-approved waste management facility. Through GeoCycle, waste is co-processed in cement kilns—a scientifically validated and environmentally friendly method recognized internationally for sustainable waste management.

Since its commercial launch in 2017, GeoCycle has processed over 50,000 tons of waste annually, including municipal solid waste and industrial waste from textiles, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, and consumer products. The system has the capacity to co-process more than 100,000 tons of waste each year, contributing to both the conservation of natural resources and the promotion of a circular economy in Bangladesh.

Iqbal Chowdhury, CEO of LafargeHolcim Bangladesh, said, “FICCI’s award recognizes our commitment to the circular economy and environmental stewardship. GeoCycle is a core part of our strategy and exemplifies how responsible industrial practices can address national challenges effectively.”

During the award ceremony, the prize was handed over to LafargeHolcim Bangladesh’s Chief Financial Officer Md. Anisuzzaman and Deputy Manager – GeoCycle Tamrin Chowdhury by Lutfe Siddiqui, Special Envoy on International Affairs to the Chief Adviser of the Interim Government.

GeoCycle continues to position LafargeHolcim as a leader in sustainable industrial practices, setting a benchmark for responsible waste management in Bangladesh.
