Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) has begun a two-week observance of International Rural Women’s Day, highlighting the contributions of rural women in shaping a technology-driven society. The celebration, which runs from 15 October to 30 October 2025, aims to honor women’s contributions to the global economy and humanitarian development, as recognized by the United Nations.

As part of the ongoing observance, BNNRC organized media briefings and award ceremonies on Wednesday, 5 November, across three districts: Barishal, Patuakhali, and Kushtia.

This year’s theme was “Gender-Based Violence Facilitated by Technology: Prevention, Mitigation and Action.” During the events, it was shared that BNNRC is implementing the project titled “Strengthening Resilience Against Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV) and Promoting Digital Development.” The initiative is part of the Citizen Engagement Fund (CEF), with technical support from GFA Consulting Group and financial support from Switzerland and Global Affairs Canada.

Nearly 150 participants joined the district-level programs, including local government representatives, 45 journalists, and members of civil society, with support from SPEED Trust and SETU. In recognition of their contributions to women’s empowerment and community development, 36 individuals—selected from 18 unions across the three districts—received certificates of honor.

The award categories included women freedom fighters, women advocating for civic rights, midwives, expectant mothers, women farmers, seed preservers, voices of social resistance, local government representatives, digital development workers, women entrepreneurs, and others contributing to positive social change.

Speakers at the discussions emphasized the role of media and civil society in preventing technology-facilitated gender-based violence and strengthening women’s digital safety and empowerment. Participants noted that the events significantly helped raise awareness on the importance of ensuring secure and inclusive digital participation for women in rural areas.
