Sora Sparks Sensation and Scrutiny
OpenAI’s text-to-video generative AI app “Sora” has now been made available for Android users. The application can currently be downloaded from the Google Play Store, according to a report by Engadget.
While the iOS version remains accessible only through invitation in a limited number of countries, the app has already generated considerable public interest since its release. Within just five days of launch, Sora surpassed one million downloads.
However, its rising popularity has also been accompanied by controversy. The platform faced backlash after users generated content featuring disrespectful portrayals of Martin Luther King Jr. Additionally, the Japanese government has expressed concerns over videos created using imitations of well-known manga and anime characters.
In another dispute, a company named Cameo has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against OpenAI. The day after the lawsuit was filed, OpenAI introduced a new feature named “Cameo,” which allows users to insert existing characters or personalities into Sora-generated videos. Industry observers suggest that this feature may play a key role in Sora’s future commercial monetization strategy.
