WhatsApp Wards Off Spam with New Messaging Limit

To protect users from spam messages, WhatsApp is set to introduce a new measure. According to a report by TechCrunch, the Meta-owned messaging platform is testing a feature that restricts users or businesses from sending excessive messages to recipients who do not reply.
Under this new system, messages sent from each user or business account that go unanswered will be counted on a monthly basis. Multiple messages sent to the same recipient will also fall under this limit. However, once a recipient replies, those messages will be removed from the count. WhatsApp has stated that users will receive a warning notification when they are close to reaching the limit.
The company explained that “ordinary users are unlikely to reach this limit”; rather, the feature is designed primarily to curb spammers and excessive messaging by business accounts. The new feature will be rolled out experimentally in several countries over the coming weeks.
Earlier, in the first half of 2025, WhatsApp disabled over 6.8 million fake or fraudulent accounts and introduced an alert feature to notify users when they are added to unwanted groups.
