Microsoft’s Co-Pilot AI Chatbot to Leave WhatsApp After January 15
Microsoft has announced that its AI chatbot, Co-Pilot, will no longer be available on WhatsApp after 15 January. From that date onward, users who wish to interact with the chatbot will need to use Microsoft’s own Co-Pilot mobile app or the web version. The news was reported by TechCrunch.
This decision aligns with WhatsApp’s new policy. Last month, the platform announced that it will no longer allow general AI chatbots to operate via the WhatsApp Business API. As a result, WhatsApp will no longer serve as a distribution channel for chatbots from companies including OpenAI, Microsoft, and Perplexity.
However, businesses will still be allowed to use AI to serve their own customers, with no restrictions in this regard.
OpenAI had previously stated that it would discontinue its WhatsApp integration starting January.
Another inconvenience for Co-Pilot users is that previous chats on WhatsApp cannot be transferred to Microsoft’s platform because the chatbot operated on WhatsApp in an unauthenticated manner. Therefore, users are advised to export their chat history using WhatsApp’s built-in tool before 15 January, if needed.
