Snigdho Secures Spot: Bangladeshi Scout Elected to Asia-Pacific Scout Committee

Bangladeshi IT freelancer and Scout leader Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho has been elected as a member of the Asia-Pacific Scout Committee (APSC) of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) for the 2025–2031 term.

Snigdho, who has been serving as the Deputy National Commissioner of the Interim National Executive Committee of Bangladesh Scouts, will now work to amplify the voices of young people and strengthen the Scout movement across the Asia-Pacific region, he stated following his election.

Upon being elected, Snigdho said, “In the Asia-Pacific region, we are not just Scouts — we are a family. We are the bridge between generations and nations. I believe youth will be the power of the future, but that requires experienced leadership. We have such leaders among us. Our vision is clear — we will grow together and become stronger together.”

The election took place on October 12 during the 28th Asia-Pacific Scout Conference (APSC) at the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center in Taiwan. Following the vote, the Asia-Pacific Regional Office of WOSM officially announced the names of the newly elected committee members on October 13.

The new five-member APSC includes Mir Mahbubur Rahman from Bangladesh, Niketa Zaide Kunio from Australia, Dev Raj Ghimire from Nepal, Dr. Wilson Wai-Sang Lai from Hong Kong, and Atty. Cedric Gayona Train from the Philippines. The announcement was made by World Scout Committee Chair Daniel Corsen and Secretary General David Berg.

Each regional Scout committee consists of ten elected representatives from national Scout organizations within the region. Members serve a six-year term, presiding over regional youth representatives. At every regional Scout conference, five outgoing members are replaced by five newly elected ones, marking the rotation of leadership within the organization.

With this election, Snigdho and the four others will join the committee upon the completion of the current members’ tenure.
