Microsoft has announced the end of its direct operations in Pakistan after 25 years, shifting its services to local resellers and regional offices. According to a report by TechCrunch, the move is part of a broader global restructuring effort, which includes the layoff of 9,000 employees worldwide.

A Microsoft spokesperson stated, “This change will have no impact on customer services or contracts.”

Only five employees in Pakistan are reportedly affected by the decision. Microsoft did not operate any engineering hubs in the country but was primarily focused on the sales of its Azure and Office products.

Pakistan’s Ministry of Information Technology noted that Microsoft had already moved its contract management to Ireland over the past few years.

The exit underscores the growing challenges facing Pakistan’s tech sector and highlights a broader hesitation from global investors in the region.
