Police Post Protocol: IGP Bans Mobile Phone Use on Duty

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam has issued a strict directive prohibiting the use of mobile phones by police officers while on duty posts. He stated that the decision aims to ensure maximum concentration among officers while performing their responsibilities.

“Crime control and public safety are the core responsibilities of the police,” said the IGP, adding, “Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) is one of the most vital units of the Bangladesh Police. The public expects the highest level of professionalism and service from the DMP. Officers engaged in mobile patrols, guard duty, or diplomatic security must always remain alert and ready. Hence, mobile phone use on duty posts will not be allowed, as it disrupts attention and hampers the fulfillment of duties.”

He made these remarks on Wednesday, June 18, while addressing senior DMP officials at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh during the monthly crime review meeting for May 2025.

Highlighting the upcoming national election, the IGP emphasized, “Each member of the DMP must be mentally prepared to ensure a free and fair election for the people.”

The meeting was presided over by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali. In recognition of commendable performance in maintaining law and order, crime prevention, and public safety during May, officers of various ranks from the DMP were awarded in different categories by the Commissioner.

During the session, Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Md. Faruk Hossain presented an overview of the overall crime situation in May, including statistics on robbery, mugging, homicide, theft, violence against women and children, rape, road accidents, and recovery of drugs and firearms.

The review and award ceremony was attended by senior officials including Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md. Sarwar, Additional Police Commissioner (Administration) Faruq Ahmed, Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) S.N. Md. Nazrul Islam, Additional Police Commissioner (Logistics, Finance, and Procurement) Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali, Additional Police Commissioner (CTTC) Md. Masud Karim, along with Joint Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, Officers-in-Charge of DMP police stations, and other ranking officers.
