A video of Farida Parvin Shyamoli Chowdhury, former female Vice Chairman of Sonargaon Upazila in Narayanganj and joint convener of the Jubo Mohila League, begging for sacrificial meat alongside her husband, has gone viral on social media, stirring widespread debate and criticism.

The video, titled “Ekta gorur ran bhikkha den go” (Give us a piece of beef thigh, please), was first shared from a Facebook account named “Tin Konna”. Following widespread criticism, the video was removed from the page, and another video was uploaded defending the original post. While the viral footage has since been taken down, several other videos documenting their sacrificial cow purchase and subsequent activities remain available online.

In the now-viral clip, Farida Parvin Shyamoli Chowdhury, her husband, two children, and a young woman are seen. Sitting on the steps of a house, the husband is heard calling out to the residents inside: “Ki go, brishtir majhe boiya roisi, ektu gosto den na go” (We’ve been sitting in the rain, please give us some meat). His wife echoes, “Den na go ektu gosto” (Please give us some meat).

The man continues, “Apnara borolok manush, apnara ekta ran diya dilei hoibo. Parle amago ekta ran diya den, barite giya khamune, apnader jonno doa korbo” (You are wealthy, just one beef thigh would be enough. If possible, please give us one, we’ll eat it at home and pray for you).

Shyamoli responds, “Tui khali ran chas keno? Hete torey gosto dit na. Dengo amago duga gosto den. Allah’r wastay den. Megher moddhe aschi, gosto dile Allah apnader borkot diben. Kalke deikha gesi apnader goruta boro ache” (Why do you only ask for the thigh? They won’t give you meat then. Please give us some meat for the sake of Allah. We came in the rain. Allah will bless you. We saw your cow yesterday; it was big).

Eventually, a young woman from the house hands them a packet of meat. Holding it, the couple exclaims, “Etotuku?” (Just this much?). Addressing their children, they say, “Dekh putera, dekh koto tuku gosto dise, borolok manush koto tuku gosto dise” (Look, children, see how little meat these rich people gave us).

In the final moments of the video, the man tells the young woman, “Amago mot 10ta pola. Oder jonno 10 pis dileo to hoto” (We have 10 children. At least 10 pieces should have been given). They then throw the meat packet on the ground and leave, mocking the givers and claiming they didn’t need the meat anyway.

Local sources and several reports suggest that Shyamoli Chowdhury and her husband staged the video for attention and social media views. It was posted on her daughter’s Facebook page, leading to sharp reactions from residents and netizens alike. Many have condemned the act and left negative comments across platforms.

Further investigation reveals that Shyamoli Chowdhury had previously gone viral after another video surfaced post-5 August. In that clip, she is seen tearfully addressing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, saying, “Mago ma, tumi jono netri Sheikh Hasina ma. Mago tumi ki amader bhaggota niye geso sathe. Tomar ei bacchagor golay chhip diya maara thuya gela na. Golay tippa maira rekhe jaitha. Na hole keno emon shuru korse. Amra to protik niye nirbachon kori nai. Amra nirbachon korsi swatantra theke, amra to keu protik nei nai” (Mother Sheikh Hasina, did you take our fate with you? You’ve left us to be strangled. Otherwise, why is all this happening? We didn't contest elections with any party symbol, we contested as independents).

When contacted for comment, Shyamoli Chowdhury hung up after being informed that she was speaking to a journalist, citing illness. Several subsequent attempts to reach her went unanswered.

It is worth noting that Shyamoli Chowdhury has been actively involved in local Awami League politics. She has previously appeared in meetings and rallies alongside Narayanganj-3’s former MP Abdullah Al Kaiser Hasanat and other regional political figures.
