Broadcast Disruptions Expected for Bangladesh Satellite-1 Due to Solar Interference

Due to solar interference, the broadcast operations of Bangladesh Satellite-1 may experience temporary disruptions between March 7 and March 13. The disruptions are expected to last for a total of 77 minutes over this period.

The information was disclosed in a press release issued on Tuesday by Omar Haider, Public Relations Spokesperson of Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL).

He explained that solar interference is a common astronomical phenomenon affecting all satellites twice a year, leading to temporary disruptions in satellite-based broadcasting operations. As a result, service interruptions are expected during the following timeframes:

  • March 7: 9:53 AM – 10:01 AM (8 minutes)
  • March 8: 9:52 AM – 10:02 AM (10 minutes)
  • March 9: 9:51 AM – 10:03 AM (12 minutes)
  • March 10: 9:50 AM – 10:03 AM (13 minutes)
  • March 11: 9:50 AM – 10:03 AM (13 minutes)
  • March 12: 9:50 AM – 10:02 AM (12 minutes)
  • March 13: 9:51 AM – 10:00 AM (9 minutes)

BSCL has assured that it will closely monitor the interference throughout this period.

Bangladesh Satellite-1, the country’s first satellite, currently provides broadcasting and telecommunication services to various domestic and international organizations.
