Meta to Host 'LlamaCon' for AI Developers

Meta has announced that it will host its first-ever generative AI developer conference, LlamaCon, named after its Llama AI model. The event is scheduled for April 29. The news was reported by TechCrunch.
According to Meta, the conference will provide updates on its open-source AI development efforts, helping developers create new applications and products. Further details will be revealed soon. Meanwhile, Meta’s annual developer conference, Meta Connect, will take place as usual in September.
Meta adopted an open-source AI strategy a few years ago, allowing companies like Goldman Sachs, Nomura Holdings, AT&T, DoorDash, and Accenture to use its Llama model. The company claims that Llama has been downloaded hundreds of millions of times and is hosted by over 25 partners, including NVIDIA, Dell, Databricks, and Snowflake.
However, Meta is facing increasing competition from Chinese AI company DeepSeek, whose latest AI model is reportedly poised to surpass Meta’s next Llama iteration. In response, Meta has formed a "war room" to analyze DeepSeek’s advancements.
Meta has planned an $80 billion investment in AI projects by 2025, which includes building new AI data centers and hiring AI specialists.
Mark Zuckerberg has confirmed that Meta is developing a new Llama model with enhanced reasoning and multimodal capabilities. However, the company is currently dealing with copyright infringement lawsuits and data privacy challenges in certain European Union countries.
