Bangladesh needs to accelerate the growth of technology-driven industries like Walton to strengthen the country’s readiness for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Social Welfare Minister Professor Dr A Z M Zahid Hossain has said. He said Walton is manufacturing high-tech electrical and electronics products, including refrigerators and televisions, as well as high-configuration laptops and tablets. The company manufactures everything from components and parts to fully finished products.

September 8, Tuesday, the minister made the remarks during a visit to Walton Headquarters in Chandra, Gazipur. During the visit, he witnessed the manufacturing processes of various world-class, high-tech products, solar power facilities and environmentally sustainable production practices. He also expressed his admiration after gaining first-hand insights into Bangladesh’s progress in electrical, electronics and high-tech manufacturing, technological capabilities and export activities.

The Social Welfare Minister said, “Walton products offer superior quality and durability at affordable prices. Alongside creating significant employment opportunities, Walton is also helping the country save substantial foreign currency through local production of technology products.”

Upon his arrival at Walton Headquarters, the minister was welcomed with flowers by Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC’s Directors S M Rezaul Alam and S M Monjurul Alam Ovee.

The minister began his visit by watching a video documentary highlighting the manufacturing processes of various Walton products. He then toured the display centre showcasing a wide range of technology products manufactured by Walton.

Later, he visited different manufacturing facilities, including the PCB or motherboard production plant equipped with state-of-the-art SMT (Surface Mount Technology) machines. He also visited the country’s largest floating solar power plant installed at Walton Headquarters and learned about the company’s technological excellence, quality control, research and development, and export activities.

Following the visit, the Social Welfare Minister said, “I previously had mixed perceptions about Walton. I used to think that Walton perhaps only assembled or reassembled products. But after visiting the factory today, my perception has completely changed. I am truly impressed.”

Praising Walton’s environmentally sustainable manufacturing practices, he said, “Walton is using renewable energy, which is a very good initiative.”

Highlighting the importance of technology-driven industries to the national economy, the minister said, “We have reached a certain level of advancement in agriculture and the ready-made garment sector. To move forward in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, we now need to accelerate the growth of technology-driven industries like Walton.”

“The present government is committed to supporting local industries. The growth and development of domestic industries will create more employment opportunities,” he added.

The minister further said, “To support domestic industrialisation, the government has provided tax and policy support in the national budget for FY2026-27. Our all-out support for the growth of local industries will continue.”
