Online Media Owners Seek Policy Reform, Ad Access
Leaders of the Online News Portal Association Bangladesh (ONAB), an organization representing registered online news portal owners, have urged the government to abolish the annual registration renewal system and ensure access to government advertisements to support the growth of the sector.
The appeal was made during a courtesy meeting with State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yaser Khan Chowdhury at his office in the Secretariat on Sunday, February 22.
During the meeting, ONAB leaders said that registered online portals play a vital role in informing the nation during critical moments by delivering important news promptly. They sought government assistance in resolving several issues, including registration renewal fees and other administrative challenges.
Among their key demands were the cancellation of the yearly registration renewal system, the shutdown of unregistered portals, and the allocation of government advertisements exclusively for registered online news portals.
Responding to the requests, State Minister Yaser Khan Chowdhury assured the delegation that reasonable and justified demands would be considered and implemented in the interest of sustaining and strengthening online news portals.
Those present at the meeting included ONAB Convener Mostafa Kamal Majumder, Member Secretary Shaheen Chowdhury, Joint Convener Latiful Bari Hamim, and Executive Members Ashraful Kabir Asif, Mohsin Hossain, and Ayon Ahmed.
