In today’s digital era, online gaming platforms have emerged as the primary pastime for children, and among them, Roblox stands out as a unique fascination for millions of youngsters worldwide. At first glance, it may appear to be an innocent playground. Yet, beneath its glossy surface lies a troubling reality—one that should deeply concern us as parents and responsible citizens.

In urban settings, it has now become apparent that nearly every school-going child faces the risk of unchecked attraction to, and even addiction from, Roblox. The question arises: is Roblox becoming a silent killer of children’s mental well-being, much like PUBG or Free Fire once did?

Playground or Trap of Addiction

Roblox is not a single game, but rather a vast virtual universe where players can both create their own games and play those created by others. This “user-generated content” model is its greatest allure, yet also its biggest danger. With no comprehensive content control, children may suddenly encounter violent themes, harassment, or even adult material.

The competitive quest for rewards and the in-game virtual currency, Robux, makes matters worse, triggering a relentless urge among children to keep playing. Research reveals that many spend as much as eight to ten hours a day immersed in Roblox. The consequences are severe: studies disrupted, sleep sacrificed, family bonds strained, friendships neglected. Irritability, restlessness, and even depression creep in. Alarmingly, the same trend is spreading rapidly among Bangladeshi children.

Global Experiences: Warnings to Heed

The risks of Roblox are not limited to Bangladesh; they have stirred global debate. Countries such as Turkey, Oman, Kuwait, and Qatar have already banned or restricted Roblox due to concerns over child safety and inadequate content regulation. China has launched a special, heavily monitored version called Luobulesi, designed to ensure child protection through strict filters. These examples demonstrate one clear lesson: Roblox cannot be dismissed as mere entertainment; it poses a broader social and cultural threat.

What Bangladesh Must Do

In Bangladesh, too, Roblox’s influence is growing at an alarming pace. Parents must not merely hand over mobile devices; they must also take responsibility for knowing what their children are playing. Enforcing fixed screen time limits and promoting alternatives such as outdoor sports, reading, and creative pursuits are crucial steps.

On the other hand, the government must act swiftly to impose strict monitoring of the platform. Just as measures were taken against PUBG and Free Fire, Roblox deserves equal urgency. Safeguarding the mental health and security of the next generation is a moral obligation of the state.

If we are to protect our children, we must move beyond mere discussions and take concrete action. The collective expectation of parents and responsible citizens is simple: that children grow up not in the darkness of virtual addiction, but in the light of the real world.
