BRTC Unveils Two Modern AC Buses to Enhance Road Transport
Two modern air-conditioned (AC) buses, constructed under the self-financing and management of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC), were inaugurated on February 7, Saturday, at BRTC’s Integrated Central Maintenance Workshop in Gazipur. The inauguration was conducted by Sheikh Moinuddin, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor on Road Transport and Bridges. The ceremony was presided over by BRTC Chairman Abdul Latif Molla, with notable attendees including Dr. Mohammad Ziaul Haque, Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division.
In his address, Sheikh Moinuddin emphasized the need to enhance capability to restore discipline in the country’s road transport system. He urged BRTC to take the lead in this effort, stating that in the future, the organization should develop the capacity to accommodate not only its own fleet but also buses from external sources.
Speaking as a special guest, Secretary Dr. Mohammad Ziaul Haque noted that the construction of these two AC buses is only the beginning. He highlighted the importance of utilizing the country’s talent and skills to their fullest potential and stressed that there is substantial opportunity to expand BRTC, aiming to usher in a new era for the organization.
BRTC Chairman Abdul Latif Molla, in his remarks, explained that despite the old fleet and additional expenditures, the organization has maintained operational efficiency through improved management, technology-driven monitoring, and cost reduction. He highlighted the use of the Vehicle Tracking System (VTS) to monitor buses and trucks across the country in real time from the central control room. He also mentioned that the process to import 340 advanced buses from Korea is in its final stages and plans are underway to add new trucks and coaster buses to the fleet.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by officials from various levels of the Road Transport and Highways Division, department heads, BRTC senior officials, and General Managers and Deputy General Managers from multiple divisions.
