IDEB Announces Week-Long Programs to Mark Its Anniversary
The Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) is set to celebrate its 55th founding anniversary and Engineering for Public Welfare Day 2025 with a week-long series of programs under the theme “Skilled Manpower – The Core Foundation of Nation Building.” The announcement was made at a press conference held on Thursday, 6 November, at the IDEB headquarters in Kakrail, Dhaka. The briefing was led by the organization’s convenor, Engineer Md. Kabir Hossain.
According to the announcement, the week-long celebration will begin Sunday at 10:00 am at the IDEB headquarters with a discussion session and rally, to be inaugurated by Adilur Rahman Khan, Advisor to the Ministry of Housing and Public Works. On Monday at 4:00 pm, IDEB will host a seminar titled “Skilled Manpower – The Core Foundation of Nation Building,” with the participation of senior leaders from various political parties.
Other events include a memorial prayer session for late leaders and member engineers at the IDEB building in Kakrail on Saturday at 4:00 pm, followed by a special feature program on BTV and Bangladesh Betar highlighting the significance of the day. A family gathering and cultural program will take place on Tuesday afternoon.
Similar programs will be organized across district branches. Additionally, from 8 to 14 November, free technical advisory services will be offered nationwide.
Explaining the relevance of this year’s theme, IDEB representatives noted that in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, technology is rapidly transforming workplace dynamics, increasing the need for skilled manpower to an unprecedented level. Automation, artificial intelligence, robotics, and digital manufacturing are reshaping industries. To remain competitive globally, Bangladesh must invest in technical education, skill development, and continuous professional training.
IDEB leaders emphasized that a nation’s true wealth lies not only in its natural resources, but in the skills, creativity, and commitment of its people. With a vibrant and youthful population, Bangladesh holds a significant demographic advantage. However, they cautioned that this advantage can only be realized by transforming the population into a skilled and innovative workforce. They expressed hope that this year’s theme will encourage policymakers to prioritize these issues with greater urgency.
The main address at the press conference was delivered by Central Convenor Engineer Md. Kabir Hossain. Member Secretary Engineer Kazi Sakhawat Hossain responded to journalists' questions. Also present were Engineer Golam Mohammad, Engineer Mirza Mizanur Rahman, Engineer Ershad Ullah, Engineer Nausher Ahmed Tamanna, Engineer Golam Kibria, Engineer Moniruzzaman, Engineer Mostafa Kamal, Engineer Shahab Uddin Sabu, among others.
