Bangladesh Behind in AI: BCI Calls for Capacity Building

Bangladesh ranks 113th among 174 countries in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Highlighting that 84% of the country’s youth lack the necessary skills to operate AI, the Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI) emphasized the urgent need for effective initiatives to raise awareness and enhance skills.
This information was shared during a day-long training workshop titled "AI for Human Resource Management," held at the BCI Boardroom in the capital on Saturday, April 26. The workshop was inaugurated by BCI President Anwar-ul-Alam Chowdhury Parvez. Trainers included Md. Imdadul Islam, Senior Manager (Business Development) of Netcom Learning Bangladesh, and Hasan Md. Zubayer, Learning Consultant.
In his keynote address, Anwar-ul-Alam Chowdhury said, "AI is currently a critical matter for the country’s industrial sector. As the world moves toward the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Bangladesh must also build a workforce skilled in technology. Our youth are our greatest strength. If we can train them in AI, it will ease employment retention and industrial growth."
BCI Secretary General Dr. Md. Helal Uddin added, "Bangladesh holds enormous potential, but the challenges are equally significant. AI technology is evolving rapidly; therefore, now is the time to adopt appropriate plans and initiatives. According to the latest IMF AI Index, Bangladesh ranks 113th, lagging far behind developed nations."
The workshop’s speakers highlighted various aspects of AI application, its impact on human resource management, and its importance in future employment. The workshop concluded with a direct question-and-answer session and feedback from participants.
A total of 25 representatives from BCI member organizations and various industrial enterprises attended the workshop. At the closing ceremony, certificates were distributed among the participants by BCI’s Senior Vice President Preeti Chakraborty.
