Elon Musk’s xAI Deploys Custom Chatbot for U.S. Government Automation

Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, has introduced a custom chatbot to automate government tasks. The chatbot, named “GSAI,” is currently being used by employees of the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), according to a report by Engadget.

GSAI assists employees with drafting emails, generating speech outlines, summarizing text, and writing code. Users can choose from three AI models—Claude Haiku 3.5 (default), Claude Sonnet 3.5 v2, and Meta LLaMA 3.2. The chatbot has primarily been developed for analyzing contract and procurement-related data.

Recently, GSA has undergone significant workforce reductions. According to a report by NPR, the agency has already laid off more than 1,000 employees, including nearly 90 staff members from its technology division.

As reported by Wired, after an initial pilot phase with select employees, the chatbot has now been rolled out to 1,500 GSA staff members, with plans for further expansion. However, employees have been instructed not to input “federal confidential information,” personally identifiable data, or “controlled unclassified information” into the system.
