Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb Appointed as Special Assistant to Chief Adviser with Ministerial Rank
Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb has been appointed as the Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser with the rank of a State Minister in the interim government. Previously serving as a Policy Adviser to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, he will now assume responsibility for the same ministry in his new role. The Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid, issued the official notification on Wednesday, March 5, under the directive of the President.
The appointment follows the recent resignation of Nahid Islam, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination movement, who previously served as an adviser to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology. Following his resignation, the responsibility for the ministry temporarily fell under the Chief Adviser, who has now delegated it to his Special Assistant, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb.
Taiyeb, a telecommunications expert and infrastructure development researcher, holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). Before taking on the role of Policy Adviser, he worked as a Senior Software Solution Architect at Vodafone Ziggo in the Netherlands. Known for his writings on sustainable development, his work extensively covers topics such as state asset management methodologies, design flaws in engineering projects, technical management of various sectors, infrastructure reform, and automation.
Additionally, the same government order has appointed Sheikh Moinuddin as a Special Assistant to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges. Previously, three other Special Assistants to the Chief Adviser, holding state ministerial ranks, were assigned to different ministries. With these latest appointments, a total of five Special Assistants are now overseeing five ministries in the interim government.
In a separate notification, Professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul (C.R.) Abrar has been appointed as an adviser to the Ministry of Education, while Wahiduddin Mahmud, who was already overseeing both the Education and Planning Ministries, has now been officially designated to focus solely on the Ministry of Planning under a revised Cabinet Division directive.
