TikTok Returns to U.S. App Stores After Temporary Ban Suspension
The Chinese-owned short video platform TikTok has once again become available on Apple and Google’s app stores in the United States. This follows a 75-day suspension of the ban imposed by former President Donald Trump, allowing tech giants to reinstate the app, according to a report by Reuters.
Earlier this year, TikTok was briefly removed from U.S. app stores following the enforcement of a law requiring ByteDance, its Chinese parent company, to sell its U.S. operations or face a ban. However, Trump issued an executive order delaying the enforcement of the ban for 75 days, giving TikTok more time to comply.
In a statement, TikTok confirmed that its latest version is now available for download. According to market research firm Sensor Tower, the app was downloaded over 52 million times in the United States in 2024. Of these, 52% came from Apple’s App Store, while 48% were from Google Play.
As uncertainty looms over TikTok’s future in the U.S., several investors, including Frank McCourt, former owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, have expressed interest in acquiring the platform. Experts estimate that TikTok’s U.S. business could be valued at approximately $50 billion. Trump stated that he is in discussions with multiple parties and is expected to make a final decision on TikTok’s future by February.
