Cybersecurity Surge: Kaspersky Identified Malicious Files on the Rise
In 2024, the global cybersecurity detection systems identified an average of 467,000 harmful files per day, which is a 14% increase compared to 2023. Experts indicate that certain categories of cyber threats have significantly risen.
The detection rate for Trojans has already increased by 33%. All of this information comes from the Kaspersky Security Bulletin (KSB). As in previous years, Kaspersky has analyzed all the changes in the cybersecurity sector in their annual report.
Vladimir Kuskov, Head of Anti-Malware Research at Kaspersky, stated that every year, cybercriminals develop new malware, techniques, and methods of attack, expanding the scope of cyberattacks. This year, some dangerous trends have been observed, such as attacks targeting trusted relationships and the supply chain.
In addition, there have been attacks on open-source packages. Extensive phishing and banking malware have spread across social media platforms. These attacks are utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI). Experts are continually working to address the new and complex cyber threats.
The main target of cyberattacks is the Windows platform, with 93% of malware being detected here daily. It is noted that from 2023 to 2024, malware attacks on Windows increased by 19%. Experts suggest that the number of Trojan malware has increased by 33%. Trojan droppers are harmful software that spreads malware through scripts or MS Office documents.
Experts advise avoiding downloading apps from untrusted sources, clicking on suspicious links, and disabling security software for protection against cyberattacks. Two-factor security and strong passwords are essential. It is also recommended to quickly install updates and use security solutions.
