AI in Media: Awareness Urged to Counter Content Risks
Yasser Khan Chowdhury has called for heightened awareness to address the misuse and ethical risks of Artificial Intelligence (AI), even as the technology opens up new possibilities in global film, media, and creative industries. He stated that the government supports responsible AI usage and emphasized the need to ensure that the technology serves as a tool to enhance creativity.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at a workshop titled “Strategies to Prevent the Spread of Rumours and Misinformation through the Use of AI Technology in Film and Advertisement Production and Marketing,” held on Thursday, 14 May, at the auditorium of the National Institute of Mass Communication in the capital. The workshop was jointly organized by the National Institute of Mass Communication and the Bangladesh Cinema and Television Institute.
The State Minister said that AI technology can act as a powerful driver of positive innovation in film, media, and digital content creation. However, stakeholders must ensure that it is not used to produce rumours, misinformation, or misleading content, and must play a responsible role in its application.
The session was chaired by Abul Kalam Mohammad Shamsuddin. A certificate distribution ceremony for four courses conducted by BCTI was also held during the event. Special guests Dr. Md. Alam Mostafa and Rawnak Jahan delivered speeches.
