Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has emphasized the formation of a cyber police unit and the strengthening of capabilities in Artificial Intelligence (AI), big data, and digital forensics to combat financial fraud and emerging technology-driven crimes. He said that in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, ensuring public safety and delivering expected services is not possible without a modern, technology-driven police force.

He made these remarks on 10 May, Sunday, while addressing the police “Welfare Parade” at the Rajarbagh Police Auditorium as the chief guest on the occasion of Police Week. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Inspector General of Police Ali Hossain Fakir, and other senior officials were present at the event.

The Prime Minister stated that the use of advanced technology is being expanded to control cybercrime, suppress transnational crime, prevent financial fraud, and combat terrorism. To this end, initiatives have been taken to establish a cyber police unit, enhance digital forensic capabilities, and ensure internationally standard training.

He further noted that the effective use of big data analytics and AI technology will make the policing system more dynamic and efficient. The government’s goal is to build a fully technology-driven, modern, and humane police force.

Addressing police personnel, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said that earning public trust is the greatest success for the police. He urged members to maintain humanity and professionalism in serving the people. “The police do not belong to any party; rather, they are a state institution governed by the law,” he said.

He added that initiatives such as community policing and Open House Day should be further expanded so that citizens can directly engage with police activities.

The Prime Minister alleged that in the past, the police had been positioned against the people for political purposes. He said that the time has now come to move beyond that situation and build police-public relations based on trust and cooperation.

He stressed that enforced disappearance, abduction, and extrajudicial activities are unacceptable under any circumstances. Protecting the rights of every citizen is the constitutional duty of the police.

On police modernization, he said the government is considering improvements in facilities such as modern training, housing, medical services, rations, and risk allowances.

At the event, the Prime Minister congratulated members of the police and RAB who participated in the parade and wished success for Police Week 2026. Later, he and his spouse Zubaida Rahman visited the stall of the Bangladesh Police Women Welfare Association (PUNAK).
