Outsourced SOCs Surge as Cyber Threats Grow

As cyber threats become increasingly complex, most organizations worldwide are gravitating toward outsourced or hybrid models when establishing Security Operations Centers (SOCs). A recent survey by cybersecurity firm Kaspersky found that more than 90 percent of organizations consider partially or fully outsourced SOC models to be more effective than maintaining a completely in-house setup.

According to the survey, 64 percent of organizations plan to partially outsource their SOC operations, while 28 percent are ready to adopt a full “SOC-as-a-Service” model. In contrast, only 7 percent prefer to maintain a fully in-house SOC. In most cases, organizations are keen to outsource technical and operational tasks—such as security solution deployment, SOC design, 24/7 monitoring, and the work of first- and second-tier security analysts—to external service providers.

In this context, Kaspersky has advised organizations planning to establish SOCs to adopt tools that can deliver integrated, proactive, intelligent, and end-to-end cybersecurity protection.

Commenting on the trend, Sergey Soldatov, Head of Security Operations Center at Kaspersky, said: “Many organizations are now outsourcing SOC functions either fully or partially because it significantly reduces their day-to-day and technical burdens. By delegating routine tasks to external experts, organizations can focus more on critical decision-making and responding to sophisticated cyberattacks. At the same time, this approach helps lower costs and enables more efficient use of human and technological resources. Overall, this model is transforming SOCs from being merely technical units into strategic assets that are essential for keeping businesses running.”
