Tech-Trained Talent: BGMEA Awards Advanced Certification to 1,175 Trainees
A total of 1,175 trainees who completed graduation from various educational institutions—based on technological changes in the garment sector and industry requirements—have been awarded advanced, technology-driven training. The initiative was jointly undertaken by the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the government’s Skills for Industry Competitiveness and Innovation Program (SICIP).
Upon completion of specialized skills training, certificates were handed over to the graduates in two sessions on Thursday, November 20, at the Nurul Quader Auditorium of the BGMEA Complex in the capital. BGMEA President and SICIP–BGMEA Project Chairperson Mahmud Hasan Khan and BGMEA Senior Vice President Inamul Haque Khan presented the certificates.
The program was presided over by BGMEA Vice President Md. Shihab Uddoza Chowdhury. Director Rumana Rashid attended as a special guest, while Director Majumdar Arifur Rahman delivered the keynote presentation.
Also present at the event were BGMEA Directors Nafis-ud-Doula, Kazi Mizanur Rahman, and several Standing Committee chairpersons. The session was moderated by SICIP–BGMEA Project Chief Coordinator Munir Chowdhury.
At the start of the event, BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan was honored by three members of the project committee—Vice President Md. Shihab Uddoza Chowdhury, Director Majumdar Arifur Rahman, and Director Rumana Rashid—for his successful leadership of the project.
In his speech as chief guest, BGMEA President said that despite rising production costs due to various global and domestic factors, product prices have remained stable; thus, skill enhancement has become essential for surviving global competition.
He added that the garment industry is now shifting away from basic production and emphasizing advanced, technology-based tools, including industrial engineering, apparel design software, 3D design, computer-aided manufacturing, and digital printing. He called upon trainees to join these fields and lead the industry’s future.
“The graduates are the industry’s future technicians; they will act as changemakers in the digital transformation required to build Smart Bangladesh 2041,” he said.
In his keynote, Director Majumdar Arifur Rahman stated that SICIP, in partnership with the Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance and BGMEA, has been implementing the project since 2024 with the aim of training 10,000 individuals. Currently, 12 courses are being conducted across 20 training centers.
Notably, SICIP is a priority government program supported financially and technically by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The program aims to enhance skills, competitiveness, and innovation in the industrial sector. For the ready-made garment industry, BGMEA serves as the primary implementation partner.
