PSTU Penalizes Outsiders for Inappropriate Behavior on Campus
The administration of Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) has fined and released two outsiders— a young man from Dhaka and a young woman from Dumki upazila in Patuakhali—after they were found in an intimate situation on the university’s central playground.
According to sources, on Sunday, July 6, shortly before sunset, the pair was seen engaging in indecent behavior at the northern secluded end of the central field. Some students reported the incident to the university's security wing, after which a team led by Security Officer Md. Mukit Miah detained them and brought them to the security office.
Reports further suggest that even after being taken to the security office, the duo continued their inappropriate conduct. When security personnel intervened, the male became aggressive and allegedly vandalized the office, damaging a TV monitor. He also reportedly threatened the staff while claiming to have political connections.
Upon receiving news of the incident, the young woman's mother and elder sister arrived at the university and requested that the matter be resolved privately. Subsequently, the couple submitted a written confession and signed a bond of undertaking.
The university administration also imposed a fine of BDT 24,500 as compensation for the damaged property. After collecting the fine and receiving written statements, the duo was released.
Speaking to the media, Assistant Security Officer Md. Mukit Miah said, “Immediate action is taken whenever campus security is disrupted. We have received compensation for the damaged equipment, which will be returned the following day considering the financial aspect.”
PSTU Proctor Professor Abul Bashar Khan added, “The proctorial body remains vigilant in maintaining campus discipline and safety. We will enforce stricter measures to prevent such untoward incidents in the future.”
