Epic Escalates: Fortnite Fight Returns to Court Over Apple App Store Ban
Epic Games has once again approached the court in the United States in a bid to restore Fortnite to the Apple App Store, alleging that Apple is in violation of an April court order. According to a report by The Verge, the order prohibits Apple from rejecting apps solely because they include external payment links.
Epic claims that it submitted the Fortnite app in compliance with Apple’s guidelines, but the tech giant has not granted approval and is instead waiting for a ruling related to a "partial stay" motion. Epic described Apple’s delay as a “retaliatory move.”
Epic further stated that Apple had previously informed both the company and the court that Fortnite would be approved if it adhered to the updated guidelines. However, after Epic added updates to the European version of the app, Apple also removed that version from the European App Store.
Epic has now requested the court to compel Apple to comply with the earlier order and require the approval of Fortnite and any other apps that meet the stipulated conditions.
