For the first time, Bangladesh is set to host the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Bangladesh Championship on a national scale, beginning on May 10, in the style of an Olympiad. The competition will be held across three categories at several leading universities in Dhaka, including the University of Dhaka, University of Business and Technology (UBP), East West University, American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), and United International University (UIU).

Each university will accommodate a maximum of 300 participants. Grooming sessions have already commenced, including YouTube tutorials focused on professional certification for Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. According to the structure of the competition, a maximum of three champions will be selected from each regional stage, from which the top ten will proceed to the national round. National champions will earn the opportunity to attain Microsoft certification.

A special 'Gala Round' will be held with the top three among long-listed (LS) participants, preceded by a dedicated grooming session. Winners of the gala round will represent Bangladesh at the MOS World Championship to be held in Florida, USA. The total prize pool for the event is worth BDT 2 million, including the U.S. trip. At the world championship, winners will receive $8,000, $4,000, and $2,000 for first, second, and third place respectively.

Students aged 13 to 22 from across Bangladesh can register through the career-building platform V-Tutor, using their personal email and phone number. While training is free, a registration fee of BDT 300 is required. The second round will run until May 21, followed by the national round on May 23, and the gala round on May 24.

Details of the event were announced at a press briefing held Wednesday morning at Hotel Radisson in Dhaka. V-Tutor’s Co-founder and Chief Learning Officer Kazi Shamim presented the outline of the event, while the logo was unveiled by Kazi Mostak Zahir, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Other speakers included Dr. Ridwanul Haque, Chairman of IBA-MDP at Dhaka University, Dr. Ahmed Wasif Reza, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at East West University, Kazi Md. Mohiuddin, Senior General Manager of Meghna Group of Industries (the event's main sponsor), and Md. Nazrul Islam, Director of Sales and Marketing at hospitality partner Radisson Blu.

Speakers expressed a collective commitment to equipping the youth with globally recognized digital skills through this initiative. Kazi Mostak Zahir emphasized the importance of strong partnerships between academia and industry for developing skilled youth. “In the coming days, skill sets will outweigh educational qualifications,” he said. “Mastering forward-looking soft skills like AI will be vital. Our ministry will always support such initiatives. I believe this program will help prepare and certify young people in international-level digital skills, enabling them to lead in the global IT arena.”

Dr. Mohammad Ridwan Haque of Dhaka University remarked, “In the 37th BCS, so many candidates applied that the number exceeded Brunei’s entire population. This trend is rendering our manpower ineffective. We must align ourselves with the new age and shift our mindset.”

Dr. Wasif Reza from East West University added, “This initiative will usher in a transformative change in our education sector, significantly contributing to the development of tech-savvy youth.”

Kazi Mohammad Mohiuddin of Meghna Group noted, “In today’s world, skills are just as important as knowledge. I believe it is the youth who will lead us into the future.”

Chief Youth Adviser Kazi Mostak Zahir further stated, “The current government has organized over 50,000 tech-based events for adults and more than 200,000 for the youth. The young generation is our primary driving force for change, and I believe they will spark the next technological revolution. This revolution will require everyone’s support.”
