Biman Bangladesh Aims for Zero Flight Delays and Passenger-Friendly Services
Biman Bangladesh Airlines has made significant strides in reducing flight delays to zero, improving crew and staff behavior, and ensuring a more passenger-friendly experience, according to Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Md. Shafiqur Rahman. He also claimed that advance seat booking and ticket blocking have been brought down to zero.
Speaking at a courtesy meeting with the executive committee of the Aviation and Tourism Journalists’ Forum of Bangladesh (ATJFB) at Biman’s Balaka office on Wednesday, he emphasized,
“Any individual found involved in ticketing irregularities is immediately removed from the concerned department.”
Addressing concerns over allegations of ticket blocking and artificial shortages on flights to Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern destinations, he stated,
“Currently, there is zero advance seat booking or ticket blocking in Biman. I personally monitor this issue. There were previous complaints against a few individuals, and they have been reassigned to other departments.”
On baggage handling at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, the Biman MD acknowledged challenges but assured improvements, saying,
“We are continuously working to enhance our baggage management. Any complaints regarding baggage are taken seriously and addressed immediately. However, we do face some infrastructural limitations. We expect that once the third terminal becomes operational, baggage management will improve significantly.”
To ensure transparency in baggage handling, he noted,
“Our baggage handling staff wear body-worn cameras during duty hours. These cameras are returned after their shift ends. Additionally, 150 new cameras have been purchased to further strengthen surveillance.”
Regarding preparations for Hajj flights, he assured smooth operations, stating,
“With our current fleet, we are managing scheduled flights efficiently. However, during the Hajj season, there will be increased demand for aircraft. To accommodate this, we may reduce the frequency of flights on one or two routes and allocate those aircraft for Hajj operations. As always, we expect that pilgrims will have a seamless journey with Biman Bangladesh Airlines.”
During the meeting, ATJFB President Tanzim Anwar delivered a welcome speech, encouraging Biman to take further initiatives to enhance passenger experience.
