Attack on Nagad Administrator Sparks Protests by Bangladesh Bank Officials

An attack was carried out on Muhammad Badiuzzaman Didar, the administrator appointed by the central bank for mobile financial services (MFS) provider Nagad. In response to the incident, officials of Bangladesh Bank staged a protest.
The demonstration took place on Thursday (February 13) at the Bangladesh Bank premises. More than a hundred officials and employees gathered in front of the central bank’s 30-story building, where speeches were delivered by Joint Director Md. Shahedul Hasan, Additional Directors Md. Rokonuzzaman and Sheikh Abdul Kuddus, and Director Anisur Rahman. The protest was presided over by Director Mizanur Rahman Akon.
The attack occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Banani’s Road No. 12 in Dhaka. Muhammad Badiuzzaman Didar and his driver sustained injuries during the assault, and the perpetrators also vandalized his car using hammers.
According to sources, at the time of the incident, Badiuzzaman Didar was on his way to Gulshan after leaving his office when a group of assailants followed him. They intercepted his private vehicle, attacked the driver, and vandalized the car before physically assaulting him.
Nagad strongly condemned the attack on its administrator and the destruction of his vehicle, expressing deep concern over the incident. The mobile financial service provider, which operates under the Bangladesh Postal Department, filed a general diary (GD) at Banani Police Station regarding the matter.
Officials and employees of Nagad have demanded swift legal action against the perpetrators and exemplary punishment.
Speaking to the media, Bangladesh Bank spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan confirmed the attack, stating, "The incident did take place, but the administrator was not severely injured. However, his driver sustained injuries. The car, which had just been purchased today, was damaged with hammers and rods. We stand by the Nagad administrator and have advised him to file a case. He is preparing to do so."
Banani Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Russell Sarwar earlier informed the media that law enforcement responded promptly to reports of the attack and vandalism. "Two assailants attacked the vehicle with hammers. We have collected CCTV footage from the area and are analyzing it to identify those responsible. However, as of 9 PM on the day of the incident, no formal complaint or case had been filed," he said.
