The reasons for what Metrorail did not run for two hours
Foil paper got stuck with the electrical wires of the metro rail and subsequently, there was a lightning; consequently, the metro rail movement was stopped for about two and a half hours on Sunday in the morning. On Sunday, March 31, the first train was scheduled to run at 7:10 a.m. but it started after 8:45 a.m.
A source from the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), the company managing the Metrorail, confirmed this matter.
According to DMTCL sources, the metro movement suffered two setbacks in the morning. Because of this, it could not be started in the morning. First, the Metrorail was shut down due to lightning. Later, the movement was stopped when polythene fell on the electric wires. Basically, a foil paper flew off during morning storm and got stuck on the overhead catenary somewhere between Bijoy Sarani and Farmgate station. It took a while to remove it. Since the maintenance team was not there at that time, so it took about an hour.
However, since, there was lightning in the morning half an hour before that, the danger signal came automatically. Power lines were then shut off as a precaution. A responsible official said on the condition of anonymity that they took this precaution because the electricity wires (overhead catenary system) were open on the Metrorail line.
Meanwhile, the passengers suffered due to the closure for two hours. Many people posted on social media and talked about reaching the destination by other means.
