Students pledge environmental protection on Science Day
The National Museum of Science and Technology held a science meeting, lecture and quiz contest with students on Wednesday, November 10, focusing on "International Science Day". Around 300 students, teachers and officials and staff of all levels of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Government Girls High School, Comilla Zilla School and Dhaka Ideal Preparatory School participated in the event.
In this event, 3 separate science lectures were organized entitled "What we should do to protect the climate", "Environmental pollution free urban life", and "Living an orderly life".
Speaking on the occasion, Director General of the National Museum of Science and Technology Mohammad Munir Chowdhury said, "Rich nations of the world are responsible for pollution, especially in China and India. Therefore, as a country affected by pollution, our environment deserves compensation. However, environmental protection is the moral responsibility of the citizens including the students. We have to live with the oath that pollution cannot be caused, wastes cannot be thrown away, plastic polythene cannot be thrown away.” Speaking on the occasion, Munir Hasan, Vice President, Bangladesh Science Popularization Association, said, “Climate change is causing global average temperature to rise, sea level to rise, especially the polar ice caps to melt, which will make it difficult for our country to cope with climate in future. As a result, we have to be environmentally friendly."
The event featured virtual reality and mobile movie shows for students. In this exhibition, they observed unique patterns of space, including the solar system, and a variety of 4-D movies. The students also visited the museum premises including permanent exhibition solar gardens, aircraft galleries, Titanic ships and other exhibits. Students are rewarded at the end of the ceremony. At the end of the program, the students under the leadership of Director General Mohammad Munir Chowdhury pledged to lead a life with honesty integrity and environment friendly.
