IPv6 Push: Dhaka Workshop Drives Future-Ready Internet Infrastructure
A special training workshop on Internet Protocol Version Six (IPv6) deployment is underway in the capital to modernize, secure, and future-proof the country’s broadband internet infrastructure.
The three-day workshop began on 12 May, Tuesday, at the training lab of the permanent office of the Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) in Banani, Dhaka. The event has been jointly organized by the Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh and the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre, and will continue until 14 May.
A total of 20 network engineers from various internet service providers across the country are participating in the training program.
According to organizers, the rapid growth in internet usage, smart devices, and digital services in Bangladesh has exposed the limitations of the existing IPv4 technology. As a result, the implementation of IPv6 has become crucial to ensure a more sustainable and scalable digital infrastructure for the future.
While speaking at the inaugural session, ISPAB General Secretary Nazmul Karim Bhuiyan said there is no alternative to developing skilled network engineers to sustain the country’s digital progress. He added that the knowledge gained from the training will be utilized to organize need-based training programs in different divisions and districts. This, he noted, will benefit local engineers while enhancing the technological capacity of internet service providers.
He further stated that the adoption of new technologies will enable the delivery of secure, reliable, and affordable internet services to people’s doorsteps. At the same time, initiatives have been taken to establish modern training laboratories to provide hands-on learning opportunities for engineers.
The workshop is being conducted by international trainers Md. Abdul Awal Howlader and Rafiun Nabi Manik. They are providing training on IPv6 addressing, routing, network migration, security measures, and real-world deployment strategies.
Technology experts believe that the expansion of IPv6 in Bangladesh will unlock new opportunities in the development of smart cities, fifth-generation mobile networks, cloud-based services, and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies.
