Passengers can now permanently recharge Rapid Pass and MRT Pass cards online using mobile phones without visiting service counters, through credit cards, bKash, Nagad, Rocket and other online banking platforms.

Although the service was initially launched on 25 November, earlier server-related issues had caused inconvenience. Those problems have now been resolved, allowing cardholders to recharge their cards seamlessly via www.rapidpass.com.bd.

Users can recharge amounts ranging from Tk 100 to Tk 5,000 through the online platform.

According to the Metro Rail authority, Rapid Pass and MRT Pass cards can be recharged using bKash, Nagad, Rocket, credit cards and other online banking options. To do so, users need to access www.rapidpass.com.bd from a mobile phone or desktop computer and follow the on-screen instructions. When using a fintech app, users must select “Metro Rail,” which will redirect them to the Rapid Pass website.

New users are required to register by clicking the registration option and submitting the necessary information. The registration process is completed by entering a one-time password (OTP) and typically takes one to two minutes. Once registered, users can log in using their mobile number or email address and password.

To recharge, users must select either the Rapid Pass or MRT Pass card, specify the desired amount, and choose the payment option—such as “Pay with bKash.” After entering the bKash number, verification code and personal PIN, the initial recharge process is completed. A confirmation message is then sent via SMS.

After completing an online recharge, the balance will remain in a pending state until the card is tapped on an AVM machine. Only one pending online recharge is allowed at a time; a new recharge cannot be made until the previous one is completed. Cards that are blacklisted, refunded or invalid are not eligible for recharge. Users can view their recharge history through the application or web portal.

Users may request cancellation of a recharge within seven days, provided the card has not been tapped on an AVM machine. In such cases, a 5 percent service charge will be deducted. Refund requests can also be submitted for pending transactions caused by card blacklisting, subject to the same service charge. However, the authorities have noted that refund operations are currently suspended.
