Bangladesh’s IoT Boom: Second-Gen Entrepreneurs Steering Smart Industrial Shift

As the Internet spreads across the world, a new revolution is reshaping industries — the Internet of Things (IoT). Bangladesh, too, has joined this digital transformation. Today, any forward-thinking industrial owner realizes that the future of productivity lies not merely in software but in IoT integration. Consequently, factories and production systems across the country are increasingly being equipped with IoT devices.

This transformation has led to:
a. Reduced operational costs
b. Saved time
c. Exponentially enhanced efficiency

Modern international buyers now place greater emphasis on IoT-driven production systems, as they demand flawless and consistent product quality. As a result, companies integrating IoT, AI, and automation technologies into their production processes are gaining a competitive edge — attracting more foreign orders and expanding their market reach.

Recent discussions with IoT-based companies and industry experts suggest that within the next few years, nearly all ready-made garment (RMG) and manufacturing enterprises in Bangladesh will transition to IoT-based systems.

One of the key driving factors behind this transformation is the rise of second-generation entrepreneurs. Many of these young leaders have studied advanced technologies such as AI, IoT, Big Data, and Machine Learning abroad and have now taken over their family businesses. Armed with modern knowledge and innovative thinking, they are steering their companies toward automation and digital transformation.

This evolution has produced positive outcomes on two fronts:
On one hand, Bangladesh’s industrial sector is becoming smarter and more competitive; on the other, the nation’s IT sector is rapidly digitalizing.

For instance, by learning IoT, young people gain skills in technology, programming, sensor design, and data analysis — creating a pool of skilled manpower. The adoption of IoT also encourages the rise of new startups, services, and innovations, which, in turn, help reduce unemployment.

Opportunities are emerging across multiple sectors — agriculture, healthcare, industry, education, and transport — as IoT applications expand. The technology not only cuts production costs and saves time but also enhances overall industrial efficiency.

IoT adoption in garments, transport, and energy sectors contributes directly to the growth of GDP and export earnings.

In essence, IoT creates skilled youth → increases employment → improves productivity → strengthens the economy.

Thus, with the vision and leadership of second-generation entrepreneurs, Bangladesh is advancing through the transformative power of IoT. Indeed, to build a truly “Smart Bangladesh,” the nation must embrace technologies such as IoT, AI, Big Data, Machine Learning, and Automation — driving the country’s industries and economy toward a more prosperous future.
